For some reason every time I look at this dress I think of early Chanel. I think it is the pleating and panelling technique used on the skirt. The Reig house certainly would have been designing at the same time and it definitely had the same high level of detail put into their pieces. This is the earliest label and quite collectible. Made from a heavy black silk that drapes beautifully it is cut and seamed to perfection. As was the fashion it is not too fitted but rather skims the body - nipping in at the waist and creating curves. The bodice is cut loosely and I love the button detail and piping on the wide neckline. The skirt is a masterpiece - tiny panels hug the hips and then have inset triangles of fabric once they pass the upper middle leg. This allows a wonderful swing effect and beautiful movement. Excellent condition!
